Extremely severe cyclone Fani hits India
With wind speeds as high as 200km per hour Fani was categorized as an “Extremely severe cyclone”. Over a million people were evacuated. Severe cyclones in the Bay of Bengal are rare between April and May, with only 14 forming since 1891. Almost $100 million in damage was caused in India and Bangladesh and 89 people died.
